This is a 3D model I designed and created from scratch (initially, as a character for 3D printing, which you can see over here):

The goal was to create a canine base model which I could adapt with low effort to represent different characters. The color of the eyes, paw pads and tongue can be changed with shading nodes in blender's material editor, and the fur pattern requires creating a new texture for each character.
All the models share a pose library, and the facial expressions are made with shapekeys in the original base model.
The fur is made with multiple particle systems, and can be edited in shape, direction, etc for each character.
It took me a couple of months of work while I was figuring it out, but now I'm able to create new characters from this base with a minimal amount of work!
